The Invisible Work
Join us for 'The Invisible Work' exhibition featuring works by Tainá Guedes, Claudia Rodríguez, Gustavo Guimarães, Pedro Guimarães, Stjin D'Hondt, Frida Castañeda, Mirel Fraga, Laura Garza, Colectiva Hilos, and special participation of baby Ryo (Tainá and Gustavo's son), curated by Mónica Martinez.
Delving into reports from institutions like the UN and WHO, this art exhibition explores the often-overlooked unpaid work by women, emphasizing the crucial need for gender equality in achieving sustainable goals.
The exhibition showcases 8 large fine art prints derived from impactful videos and paintings by Tainá Guedes. Using various mediums, it visually communicates the impact of gender inequalities on women and girls' nutrition globally. Tainá collaborated with her husband, their mutual baby, and Gustavo's cousin to realize the work presented at Galería L.
In dialogue with Tainá's work, there are two works by the renowned Mexican artist Claudia Rodríguez, and one made in collaboration with Laura Garza. "Motherly diary" is a collection of personal objects by the artist, aiming to make visible the "invisible work" done by her mother. "Mangas Unidas" is a homage to discriminated women, while "Sangre de mi Sangre" is a participatory art action of a collective social resistance.
The artist Stjin D'Hondt proposes a participatory art painting where gallery guests and participants are invited to think about the recipes their mothers cooked for them. As they do so, he will record their heartbeats and the visuals to create a mural. The artwork is titled "Mother Heartbeats."
